KOTA MARUDU, SABAH
Development of mini and small hydro power plant is promoted by the government of Malaysia. In 2001, Malaysian Government launched “Small Renewable Energy Program” (SREP) to attract independent power producers to develop and build power plants based on renewable energy resources.
The government of Malaysia, through the Ministry of Kementerian Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau Dan Air (KeTTHA), formed Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) with the objective of encouraging, administering and monitoring the development of Renewable Energy power plants by private developers. One River Power Sdn Bhd (1 River), a private company incorporated in Sabah, intends to develop small hydro power plants at Sungai Bengkoka, within the district of Kota Marudu, Sabah.

The project is located on the northern part of Sabah in the district of Kota Marudu

Sungai Bengkoka (Upper) with 10MW

Sungai Bengkoka (Lower) with 13.5MW

Sungai Togohu with 5.6MW
Total​ capacity generated from these three sites are approximately 29.1MW.
